A Little Bit About Common Ground Eco Hub…
Common Ground Eco Hub is run by Eco Connect – Community Through Sustainability which is a Community Interest Company (CIC). This means we’re a non-profit organisation that exists for social and community benefit.
Our aims are to create caring, sharing communities that come together to reduce waste, share skills, improve wellbeing and connect. We believe connection massively improves communities: from mental health and wellbeing, to financial benefits from swapping, reusing and sharing, to reducing waste and all working towards a common goal.
One of our aims is to provide volunteering opportunities for everyone in the community: whether that’s making a cuppa and having a natter with people in the public living room, sorting surplus food deliveries for the community market, pottering in the community garden, giving a couple of hours to help at a repair cafe or teaching people how to sew, knit or cook. These are valuable skills and activities that many communities lack.
We will be hosting regular sessions such as swishes, repair cafe, eco shop for surplus food, Unplugged family groups, Growing Up Greener group children, Green Group to come and learn skills, workshops, Sew-cials, gardening and cooking sessions as well as regular co-working space for homeworkers or self-employed people, party kit library and nappy library pick ups, recycling points, book swaps and much more.
Many of these activities we have been running successfully in other venues and mobile for a number of years but it felt like moving into a home and putting down roots in a community was the next step.
You may recognise us from our retail business Ecologico which is a mobile refill shop and our refill van Vanny Devito.
Common Ground is exactly what it says on the tin: a common ground for our community to come together regardless of age, background or economic status.
We really hope Common Ground Eco Hub is a positive space for our community to open discussions and join the dots for local needs and services.
We’re so looking forward to getting to know you all and seeing you at our sessions.
If you have any questions, please do come along and speak to us or email us at hello.commongroundhub@gmail.com
